Ashore portrays the life of a singular fisherman in an ancient riverfront community near Lisbon. Divided between the quiet solitude of the river and the family ties that wash him ashore, the film follows Albertino Lobo, as nature renews itself with each season cycle.
"Ashore begins with a place and a character. As well as with my relationship with these two axes. The town of Vila Franca de Xira and Albertino Lobo. I was born and raised on the banks of Vila Franca, close to the Tagus river. Here, I met this man, a fisherman descending from a nomadic community. Lobo was born on a boat and perhaps that is the reason of his profound connexion to the river. My intention is to reveal Albertino, in his essence simultaneously simple and enigmatic; a man leading a harsh life, in the centre of an existential turning point. More than just making an ethnographic lm about an ancient fishing tradition, my intention was above all to show this man and his family." Leonor Teles
