Chronicles of That Time
The film searches for a melody shared with the filmmakers by a friend 15 years ago, when they were travelling together between North Africa and Sicily. As a seasonal worker from Tunisia, who lived on the island of Lampedusa, Abdelhamid witnessed the fortification of southern Europe’s borders. Drawing on new and unedited material from previous projects, the film recomposes a story made out of fragments, of lacunae and hauntings. It explores the transformations in the Mediterranean over the past decades, manifesting the necropolitical drift of European migration policies and invisible border violence.

"Like a mosaic, Maria Iorio and Raphaël Cuomo assemble stories to chronicle a time when navigating a few kilometers between Africa and Europe has cost the lives of thousands of people." - Visions du Reel
