Rene

Dir. Helena Třeštíková - 83min - 2008 - Czech Republic
A purely documentary film with raw authenticity, it tells the hard-to-believe story of René, who was followed by a film camera from the age of seventeen on his journey between prisons and short stays in freedom. Director Helena Třeštíková recorded the time of transformation from a young man to a man against the background of significant political changes in Central Europe.
Reného's story begins in prison under socialist posters, continues during the Velvet Revolution and gets its apparent point with the amnesty of the then president Václav Havel.
However, René soon returns to the criminal world in order to enter the European Union again as a prisoner. During the years spent behind bars, especially for theft, he got tattoos all over his body, escaped from prison and was caught again, published two novels, robbed the apartment of the director Třeštíková, experienced two love stories, became ill with multiple sclerosis and psychologists found him to have above average intelligence . René demonstrates his view of the world with the inaccurately written English tattoo "Fuck of people" that "decorates" his neck.
